Bob's discount furniture come on down on top of you!!!

I bought an expensive black lacquer bedroom set with a mirror wall from Bob's discount furniture. The following year the top of the mirror wall came smashing down on my head in the middle of the night! I called Bob's customer complaint dept. and asked if they would come out and remove the bed wall for me, (I was willing to pay for it), and I received a rude answer of "you need to hire a handyman" , "what do you expect when it is a year old" I even sent Bob personally a letter about what happened to me, he was not helpful. So if you want his furniture to "COME ON DOWN" on top of you buy his garbage that he calls furniture because that is what it truly is!! I have never been back since and I tell all of my friends to stay away from that *** and his junk furniture.

Bob O Pedic Mattress Hardening Over Time

We purchased the Bob O Pedic just about 3 years ago and have found that the mattress has become stiffer. It is no longer the plush form fitting mattress that we first purchased. We have had them here 4 times, and each time they've check for sagging and push in on...

Many plastics become stiffer with age due to oxidation and further cross-linking of the polymer. This is usually accelerated by moisture and heat.

The foam in your mattress may not have been fully cross-linked when it was shipped. There are compression tests that can determine and quantify the compressability of your mattress.

The results should be compared with a newly made mattress of the same type. When all else fails, you can take this data to small claims court.

I bought one of Bob's bedroom sets 2yrs ago...to make a long story short, the wooden support beams broke off. I had the Goof Proof insurance but I was denied because the wooden beams underneath the bed are considered "unpolished" wood which is not covered under their insurance plan!! Please don't be a victim like me...spend the extra money and purchase quality furniture (You'll end up spending the extra money anyways) Bob's furniture and the Goof proof insurance is a Rip Off!!

Horrible Customer Service

I ordered two twin size bed for my two daughters, 1st they couldn't come to deliver at a time that was convenient for me (because of course like the majority of us I do have a job) I had to find someone to be at my house for the delivery, they brought 1 twin size frame and 1 full size frame and I already had bought 2 sets of twin size mattresses. So they had to come back the next day with the right size frame.Again I had to get someone to be at the house for the delivery only to come home from work and find 1 twin size bed in the middle of the room , so now I have 2 girls (11 and 4) sleeping in 1 twin size bed because the 1st guys that came the previous day packed everything up instead of just taking the full size frame. The guys from day 2 just came over with just the twin size frame thinking that the rest of the bed was at my house. The 3rd time they came 1 week later when they opened the box it didn't have some screws they needed but fortunately they had some "spare ones" in the truck and were able to assemble the bed finally after all the torture. Bobs store offered me a gift card for $ 50.00 that I could use only at BOBS. What a JOKE !!!!!!! I told them that they could keep the gift card and that I would never buy from them AGAIN even though almost all of my furniture had been purchased at BOBS !!!!!!!!

That is an aweful experience, absolutely. Keep in mind however, if you have had other good experiences with the same company, you should not place all your feelings on the latest issues.

But you are right to be upset with all you went through.

I do just want to touch on one issue though. I know every customer would love to have deliveries done at their convenience, but when a company has 200 delivery trucks out daily doing thousands of deliveries, and doing so during day-time hours when the drivers work, it would be quite the difficult task, and nearly impossible, to allow customers to simply choose what time works best for them.

The deliveries themselves need to be routed geographically, and are done so by a computer - can you imagine how much time would be wasted by simply driving all over to random locations for specific times? Each delivery truck is routed in a big egg shape, with the furthest customer from the warehouse being delivered in the middle of their day.

Bob's "Cheap" Discount furniture.

We bought a couch and a love seat from Bob's. The delivery was not bad. The furniture looked good. Both the couch and the love seat had two cushions for each bottom. Not even one week after purchase both pieces sagged in the middle. When reported to Bob's they said they can't do anything because we did not purchase "A certain type of protection plan". I can't remember what they called it. Stay away from Bob's their furniture is ***!!!! Bob's is the furniture version of a car thief, by the good strip it down and sell it back to the public.

If the sag in the cushions was due to a manufacturing issue, there would have been no need to purchase an extra warranty, all items are covered under a MFG warranty for no less than one year, and many are limited-lifetime. What did the service technician say when he came out to assess the problem?

Does not stand behind there "You Will Be Satisfied" Guarantee

I purchased the Bob-O-Pedic King size bed with adjustable frame. Both matresses "Plush" When we recieved them, although both were marked plush. My wife complained that hers was hard compared to mine. You could not tell from the feel. I thought is was in my wife's head so I switched them without her knowing. That night I did not sleep at all, she was right. We only had the set a few days, so I called Bobs and they told me and I quote "We dont guarantee comfort". Also the delivery guys too some parts that would be needed if we ever separated the beds. 2 Twins make a king. I called as soon as I noticed, they had just left, Bobs said they would have to send a guy out next week to look. They did, the guy got on the phone with Bobs and told them what I needed. After a month I called to see what was going on and the Lady argued with me for 30 minutes telling me they did not take anything and I did not need any parts. Bobs guarantee is a lie and the attorney general need to look into them.

In response to Craig - If you purchase 2 "plush" mattresses should they not be the same(within reason)? Also when you buy the adjustible bed, it is indeed 2 separate twin beds, that can be separated (as one can be used for medical purposes.) You can purchase a single king mattress for the top and operate them together or two separate mattresses to operate them separately.

You can get 1 plush and 1 firm if you wish.

YOU MUST work for BOBS because you sound just like the people I got on the phone. DONT KNOW what they are talking about.

#39432

Well who can guarantee everyone's comfort? Each person has their own preference.

But I will tell you that if you had called before 60 days, you could have received a reselection to another mattress, or a refund if you were not satisfied. And, if you have a king frame with split foundations, just because you have two twin foundations, the frame you have is still a king, and not two twin frames put together. There is no way to separate the frame into two twins, and what would you do next break the king mattress into two twins?

I'm just not sure why you would even want to split the frame into two twin beds when you obviously have a king mattress. But again, there is no way to break a king frame into two smaller frames, the reason they sell split foundations is due to the fact that normal foundations in a king or queen size often cannot fit up strairs or around corners as they are solid wood, and cannot bend like a mattress.

Those power-bob's are definately a pain in the butt. It works great for some people, but alot of the times the circuit boards short out, depending on the amount of use it gets.

But for all the problems they may have, they actually carry a 20 year manufacturing warranty, where parts will be replaced if they burn out. And a 5 year full replacement warranty.

Delivery issue

I found this site and thought I would add - though this was a few years ago. Bob's delivery drivers backed up into our driveway and hit our cable line. They ripped it out of the side of our house and tore off shingles. We tried contacting several people in the store, claims and Bob himself. Bob's did NOTHING and stated it wasn't their issue and our cableline must have been too low - it was not. No repairs, no gift card, no apology! Just too bad for you - not our problem. I want to spit at the TV when I see his corny, irritating commercials. What a Joke!

Bobs Discount Furniture Furniture Set

Bob's discount is a ripoff!!!

Not even 1 year ago I bought a whole living room set. It starts when they deliverd, they deliverd damaged furniture, the delivery men call the store & tell them furniture is damage "no problem" they say we'll deliver another one for you, (coffee table, sofa table & end table) aside from the couches that would be ALL the furniture I bought! They also tell me it'll take another 2-3 weeks before I can get another shipment, fine i'll wait if I must! Well 2-3 weeks later the replacement comes in, guess what........DAMAGED AGAIN!!! This went on about 3-4 times when I finally had to accept damaged furniture, well the one piece, which they would only give me 40% back for after I screamed & yelled about it, (they never offered to do so I had to scream & yell!) Almost 1 year later, the one leg of my coffee table collapsed, try to put it back just to realize the ignorant ppl they send out to put the furniture together forgot to put 1 screw in that's why the leg collapsed. My fiance & I manage to get the 1 leg to "work" until a few months later when all 4 legs collapsed, (it's a glass top) luckily the children didn't get hurt! Call up Bob's tell them what happened they send someone out to tell me that b/c the first leg that fell apart was never called in there's nothing they can do about it!! what about the other 3 legs? It's not my fault Bob's has *** furniture! They refuse to do anything about it! So after spending OVER $2000.00 on furniture that is supposed to be well built & "you will never have a problem Bob's will stand by their product" so I was told! I'm stuck with a totally & completely destroyed peice of furniture & in a round about way I was told by Bob's "OH WELL! NOT OUR PROBLEM!" I will NEVER recommend Bob's to anyone & will be sure to let everyone know what horrible customer service & furniture Bob's has!

OK well, this guy is a ***....b/c I think $2000 for a living room set is perfectly acceptable. I bought a bedroom set for $2,000 (not including my mattresses).

They did not properly assemble it, which let to the headboard splitting...and the paint is peeling off of my set....with absolutely nothing but care. The insurance that I paid an additional 200 for, which is an outside vendor, has lost my paperwork twice and are handled by a bunch of 'second language english-speaking' *** who wouldn't know customer service if it fell out of the sky and landed on their face. My suggestion?

That we all organize a day when we pile our furniture into trucks and go to Bob's and dump it in his parking lot....that might get their attention. As for you 'LG' enjoy your expensive furniture.

#36530

These complaints about Bob's cheap furniture crack me up...you get what you pay for, man. I needed a new living room sofa and chair and went to Restoration HW...pricey, but beautifully crafted and perfectly delivered. Oh and my previous furniture was from Jennifer Convertibles...lasted nearly 20 years and would have lasted longer if my cats didn't scratch the corners, so they're an excellent company, too.

Bobs Discount Furniture has a BIG GIMMICK

On Aug. 20 I helped my daughter purchase her first piece of furniture. I advised her to buy from Bobs after watching his ads and knowing that his prices were reasonable and supposedly he stands behind what he sells. You know - the no gimmick store??? She chose a sectional. First of all, the only color in stock was off white. To get any color would have been a 6-8 week wait. Since she had no furniture, that was not an option. We were told by the salesman not to worry, if we purchased the goof proof plan it would cover any stains we could not get out, yes, even nail polish and even a tear or a burn was covered. 5 days after receiving the furniture, my daughter tripped over a table and the candle she had just blown out fell onto the sectional. We called to put in a claim. The procedure, we found out, was that we had to mail the claim and specifically diagram where and what the stain was. After they received it, they still were not satisfied with the diagram and requested more info. About a week after that, I received a contract in the mail from Guardsman (NOT BOBS) showing the terms of this $99 plan. They now inform me too bad, they don't cover wax. WHAT??? They cover burns and tears but not wax? Shouldn't they have given me this info WHEN I BOUGHT THE PLAN, instead of waiting weeks afterward to send me this info? ESPECIALLY AFTER I HAD PUT IN THE CLAIM!!! Of course I had no luck customer service at Guardsman, so I called Bobs. Apparently, this is not their company, so Bobs has no say in what Guardsman chooses to cover. WAIT. . . didn't they sell me the plan? So, after no luck with customer service, I ask to speak directly to Bob. Of course, he does not take phone calls. I swear I saw him on a commercial telling me not to buy Sealy or Serta because who would I call if there was a problem, the president of Sealy or Serta? Well, it looks like the president of Bobs is just as absent. The part of the sectional that was damaged was the armless loveseat, a $210 piece. I even offered to compromise, I could turn over the cushions that were damaged on the back of the piece, but not the seat cushions. All I needed was new covers for the seat cushions. Well, they told me they could sell them to me for $100 for two of them. What a rip-off, the whole unit is only $210 and they want $100 for two seat covers? Give me a break. You get what you pay for - apparently the protection plan is just as cheap as the furniture. I would like to set it on fire and see if they really do cover burns!!!!!

Sorry folks, Bob's makes money on that "fake" Guardsman warranty, just like K-Mart/Sears makes money on theirs. If Bob's won't make it right, they should dump Guardsman and either refund anyone who was turned down for a claim or send the replacement covers, etc. If they won't, they do not deserve your business.

#53479

I just called Guardsman a couple of minutes ago and spoke to Julie. She said wax is covered!

I asked her to email or fax a copy of the complete Goof Proof coverage. She would not give it. She said it would be sent to me about a week after my furniture arrives. There is no way to get a copy of what is not covered.

We tried calling the Bobs store, Bobs customer service, Guardsman and emailed Mybobs through the website too. The coverage is kept a secret until about a week after your furniture arrives - by which time it's too late to cancel the protection.

#39436

No doubt guardsman, like every insurance company, is not the most upstanding and helpful. And I would never recommend anyone purchase that protection plan.

And you're right to be frustrated with that company. But, lets be fair here, it was your daughters fault that the piece was damaged in the first place.

And parts are not purchased from Bob's, so if you wanted seat casings, you are actually paying the vendor $100 for the two. Bob's cannot give you what it does not have, and it really was not Bob's responsibility anyway, as it guarantees pieces manufactuing defect free for specified periods, but does not guarantee customer accident free.

#38535

well I am very glad I came across this website, for all the negitive freed back I will be purchasing my items at another store, so thank you for your bad experience you have saved me from running into thing

#37571

Maybe you should have read the info on grds prior to purchasing the plan. Your daughter had an accident, you can not put the blame on bobs for your error...

#36474

In response to "bob" your an ***!

Falling isso careless? What a genius!

#36453

I will tell you this, I work for the corporate office, and whenever a customer asks me to give them a store credit (for whatever reason) on a gift card, I always tell them it is better to have it applied to their account, as we are not talking about a few dollars here - and if a credit is applied onto an actual card, and that is card is lost by the customer, there is nothing that can be done. This is not a new concept, and has nothing to do with thr size of the company.

If you purchase a wal-mart gift card, et cetera, the same exact thing would occur. When you lose a gift card, it is the same as losing the money itself.

The gift cards themselves carry the funds on them, and can only be altered if the card is in hand, if the card is lost, we cannot cancel the funds on it - and therefore cannot guarantee someone else did not pick it up to use it. You lose the card, you lose the money.

Bob's Furniture Lied to ME!

I put an order in to get replacement cushions for my couch in October. I was told it would take 4-6 weeks which made me thin Thanksgiving., By the time Thanksgiving rolled around and passed I started calling to see where they were. I recorded the amount of phone calls and they amount of time I was put on hold and even wrote to them. I called weekly and asked and kept getting the answer that they were on the way. Christmas came and went and still know replacement cushions - Then the Superbowl came and went and I kept calling and always saying that they had left the warehouse and they are on the way. Well In Feb. of 2008 I must have gotten a new employee who hadn't heard my story and she told me that they were being sent from a third world and yes they were on the way. This didn't sound right so instead of waiting a week, I called the next day and low and behold they were not able to get the delivery so they cancelled my order. All I needed was the foam cushions! Not the material - no just the cushions. I am so pissed at that company! I will never go back. I will never allow any of my friends or family go there either. They never even had the courtesy of answering my letter - no apology - no nothing. He sucks!

Correction to Matt..Name me one,, just one, sofa from Bob's thats made in the states,, when I was there they were phasing out all the decent stuff and biringing in all foregin products. Mostly from China and Brazil. I hope that Russian Oak or Siberian Elm doesn't contain that radioactive wood I heard about in the news.

#35615

"Craig" the clown strikes again!

#35609

When you place a part order, Bob's only acts as the middle-man between you and the people who actually send these items (i.e. the vendor).

Bob's does not carry parts in their warehouse, and do not themselves sell any parts. If the issue was a late part, or a missing part, or a damaged part - the issue is with the vendor, not Bob's. The order is placed by Bob's, but the vendor is then responsible for sending the item to you directly.

And Tom, Sam Walton was not a Jew, but he paved the way for ripping American consumers off by being one of the pioneers of the "buy-cheap-sell-cheap" business practice, and Wal-Mart to this day is still the top retailer in the world. Why are the prices cheap, because they are made of cheap material and use cheap labor to make them.

Delivered damaged furniture that didn't hold up.

Bob's DISCOUNT Furniture is called that for a reason. The couch I ordered was delivered with *** in the fabric; when I asked for a new one they said they didn't have another one like it,and would send some one to repair it. We could not schedule a time to fix it that would work for us so they're solution was to send us a package of fabric. Needless to say, it never got fixed and to add insult to injury, the couch and love seat didn't wear well and looked shabby after a few weeks. never again! I'll stick with Jordan's,so much for "I will make you happy."

We just had our sons "Big Boy" bed delivered to our home. We were building it up, no more crib and all that.

The delivery came and there are surface scratches on the captain's bed and the dresser. They told us that someone would be out to repair the scratches next week, and if they couldn't they would replace the pieces. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. If I was home, I would not have accepted delivery and had them send me non-damaged furniture.

I spent good money to get NEW furniture, not damaged stuff.

My wife is more forgiving than me and let them deliver it with the hopes that ther repairs will be satisfactory. We'll see......

#34559

Well if they didn't have another like it, I assume it was a special order. Otherwise all in-stock items are always available.

I take it you agreed to have a technician come out and install a new piece of fabric for you.. that is why a part order for the fabric was done. And, as they would have explained to you at that time, you need to call Bob's as soon as the package comes in to let them know you have it, otherwise a technician will not miraculously appear at your home. Bob's has no clue you received parts until you let them know.

Parts are ordered through vendors, and they are shipped by them, not by Bob's. And just so you know, half of the stuff sold in Jordans is made by the same vendors that makes Bob's furniture.

I spent alot of money on a new sectional and bedroom set for my new home. I also fell into the Goof proof trap and for 100.00 more my sectional would be protected well lets say after 10 phone calls to gaurdsman I was not protected. Lets just say I got ripped off and now the sectional lives at the dump and it wasn't even a year old....I tried writing to Bob and emailing but got the run around of course. I will not shop there again...nothing but junk. Bob sure didn't make me happy.

there are no miracles, you cannot get a good sofa for 999.99. Its simply a Chinese piece of ***, Bob peddles a lot of cheep Chinese ***, China=bad quality, if you want good furniture you need to buy Ittalian or German but it costs 10000 and up, so for 999 or 2500 you will simply get junk

#44122

Craig,

You just wrote that you agree the insurance company for the goof proof is not a good company, yet you and Bobs still deal with the comapny and sell policies?? Shameful.

#35747

I disagree - I got no info from the salesman except that they will cover any stain - even a burn or a tear. I got no terms of contract when I purchased the furniture regarding what was covered and what was not.

It is supposed to be for accidents, funny how they always have an excuse not to cover you. If my medical insurance was like this, I would be in BIG debt! Don't waste your money - it is a rip off.

And don't try to contact Bob like he advertises, you could find the president of Sealy or Simmons easier. Misleading sales pitch - they don't give you all the info - cheap furniture and a worthless warranty

#35612

Actually Jim, my analogy is exactly spot-on. Dealerships quite often facilitate the purchase of an insurance policy for the customer when they purchase a new vehicle. (And that should be common knowledge, but I can assure you of this, as this just occurred when I bought a new car about 4 weeks ago).

Bob's does the exact same thing, we put the insurance policy out there for customers who want some level of protection beyong a manufacturers warranty. And, the whole reason Bob's begand offering this type of policy, is because angry customers would HOUND the customer service department when they damaged their own furniture, and the manufacturers warranty was not designed to remedy a situation like that, for obvious reasons.

And by no means will I defend guardsman, I think they are an aweful insurance company, just like most insurance companies. But I am defending the fact that Bob's has nothing to do with their policies, and cannot be responsible for them.

But Rona, what was the cause of the denial by guards? And when was the sectional purchased? Is it possibly a manufacturing issue? If so, it may be covered under their warranty.

#35143

I am having a similar problem with Bob's. Their idea of making me ''happy" is a $100 gift certificate after spending $3,500 there and getting 6 weeks of constant aggrivation. What e-mail adress do you have for them?

I wrote that comment, and I stand by craig, Bob's furniture guarenteed me my sectional would be protected and this guardmens company basicly called me a liar and refused to help.I spent over 2500.00 dollars at Bob's and I expected to have my furniture for a long time. Again I'm out a sectional and lots of money. Do you see my bitterness????

Bad analogy Craig. Bob's sold the Insurance Policy, car dealerships don't.

When you sell that kind of protection you gain a profit from the sale of that policy. Much like when a car dealership sells you an extended warranty. So yes, they have every right to be upset with Bob's. Bob's employees facilitated the sale of the Goof Proof insurance so they should receive some brunt of criticism for selling that kind of policy regardless of what's covered.

Rona1202 thought they were buying something that would protect them and it turned out to be a wasted $100 add-on. We don't know the full details of their claim to Guardsman but to say that Bob's bears no blame for partnering with them is not fair.

They made money off the sofa and then off the insurance policy. They offered both in their stores so they are on the hook if one of their customer has a complaint about either.

I am quite sure you are aware of this, but allow me to explain for the ill informed. The Goof Proof you purchased, that is an insurance policy through a company called Guardsman, which protects against customer damage to furniture that the plan is purchased for.

So on that note, if you get into a car accident because you don't know how to drive properly and the insurance company denies your claim for whatever reason they had, do you really run over to the dealership you purchased the car from and make them responsible?

If you do, you need help. This is the same case, you cannot blame Bob's because an insurance company denied your claim for whatever reason they had.
